The game is named for Badminton, the country estate of the dukes of Beaufort in Gloucestershire, England, where it was first played about 1873. The roots of the sport can be traced to ancient Greece, China, and India, and it is closely related to the old children's game battledore and shuttlecock. at fisrt it was called "poon".
lately in class, we have been learning and practicing to play badminton. badminton is a game played with rackets in which a shuttlecock is played back and forth across the net.
for this test we have to take the pre-push up test, pre-curl up test, pre-trunk lift test, pre-sit and reach test, and pre-timed mile. we have to do all of these pre-tests because so we can get prepared and in shaped for the fall fitness testing in the fall. and plus to know what we need to do better in.
what we did in class yesterday was that we did the challenge run. usually we go around the school and through the neighborhoods nearby. its about a mile long. but yesterday we had to do our timed mile in the ponding basin. the ponding basin is about half the size of a football field? i think. so we had to run around it 3 and a half times. also we had to run with the seventh graders and that was cool. anyway it was very tiring.
we have been practicing our push-ups and trunk-lifts during class. for push-ups there has to be a total of four or five people. there is going to be one person on the floor doing the push=ups getting tested. there is going to be another person on the side checking that their toes are curled up under their feet and checking that their but isn't in the air and that their body is in a straight line. and at last there is going to be one or two people where their hands are at, making sure that they are gong down at a 90 degrees angle and keeping count.
for trunk lifts we only used three or four people. the purpose of a trunk lift is to see how flexible you are. one person is going to be doing the trunk lift. another is going to be checking that they're "shoe laces" are going to be flat on the ground and that they're feet are always together. another person is going to be on the side making sure that they're hands are under their quads and to make sure that they are looking at a small fuzzy-ball that has been placed in front of them at all times. and the lasts the person will be taking the measurement with the ruler. but they are not place he ruler underneath their chin because they are going to put heir chin down and they will get hurt. |
