Isotopes are atoms of the same elements with different number of neutrons. The proton and the electron numbers are the same. They are just heavier, lighter, and sometimes unstable (radioactive) versions of the same element. The atomic number is what makes an element unique. Radioactively decay can change the ammount of protons and neutrons. Numbers of neutrons can vary, protons can't.
